Every once in a while, something happens that reminds you why you started something in the first place.
I was watching television this morning as Camping World was giving away an RV for the Fourth of July.
As people stepped forward to explain why they wanted to win, I expected to hear about camping, fishing, vacations, or finally retiring and hitting the open road.
Instead, I heard something completely different.
One after another, people simply said…“I want to travel with my grandkids.”
And I smiled. Because that’s exactly why Grandma and Grandpa’s Traveling House exists.

It Started with Two People and an Open Road
When Dave and I first started traveling, it was just the two of us. (Well, and the two pups!)
Like so many people, we had spent years raising our family, working hard, and dreaming about someday seeing the country we had spent our lives calling home.
So, we bought a camper. We pointed it toward the horizon and we started exploring. The adventure was about us. A time to reconnect with each other and to have brand new adventures. New memories. New laughter. New – How the heck did that happen? moments.
We saw sooo much even in that first year.

The mountains

The coastlines

The little towns

The national parks

The wildlife
Every mile reminded us how much there was to discover in our amazing and beautiful country. And we really did share not only new things to see, but new laughs, new holy #$%% – how did that happen moments and we reconnected on a whole new level. (You kind of have to when you live in a tiny space.)
Then Everything Changed

First there was Jack. Then Morgan. Lainey last year, and our newest addition is set to arrive in November of this year. Suddenly, every stop became something we wanted to share. Instead of simply saying, “We visited Montana,” we wanted to tell them about Glacier National Park, grizzly bears, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Instead of saying, “We went to Tennessee,” we wanted to tell them about misty mountains, frontier families, music, and hidden underground lakes.
Every state has a story waiting to be told and we didn’t want to just ‘tell’ them about it someday, we wanted them to get excited to see it for themselves. Even better if we can do it with them!
From Memories to Stories
Somewhere along the journey, we realized we weren’t simply collecting memories, we were collecting stories. Stories about America. Stories we hoped our grandchildren would someday read before packing their own bags and beginning adventures of their own.
That’s how Grandma and Grandpa’s Traveling House was born.
More Than Children’s Books

Today, our mission is much bigger than writing children’s books. It’s about helping not only our family, but all families build memories together.
- Whether that’s reading a story before visiting a state,
- Dreaming together about exploring a new place,
- Sharing a joke or a laugh about an adventure gone slightly owry,
- Getting a small souvenir in the mail,
- Or exploring a national park
Children won’t remember all the facts, but they will remember the moments you spent time with them and dreamed of Adventures.
Our Mission
If you have learned anything about me by following our travels, you know I am a planner. My grandchildren are still too young to hit the road with us, but we have our plans! How can I get them excited to share our adventurous spirit and want to travel with us in the future? That’s the mission behind everything we create!
I want to pick up a book, set them on my lap and read a story about a state we can explore together. I want them to receive a postcard in the mail about a state we have visited and get excited to go there themselves someday. All of it is part of the America I love, and I want to enshrine that love of this land in my grandchildren’s hearts as well. That’s really what all this is about.
Helping families build memories across America, one state at a time.
The Adventure Continues
We don’t know where the road will take us next. There are still states to write. Stories to discover. Places we’ve never seen and new memories waiting to be made.
Whether you’re traveling across the country in an RV, taking a weekend road trip, visiting a nearby state park, or simply reading together at home, we hope our books inspire your family to explore this incredible country. Because the greatest souvenirs aren’t the ones you buy:
They’re the memories you make together!
See ya on the road,
Dave and Theresa
