Gulf Coast – The “Secret Coast”
It’s hard to believe we have been in Biloxi for a month. Sorry to say, for our northern family and friends, but our weather has been spectacular since we have arrived. 70 – 80 every day, sunny 99% of the time and enough humidity to be comfortable without dripping wet. Dave and Max walk twice a day and have both slimmed down and are enjoying exploring the surrounding neighborhoods. The worst thing they have discovered is the number of feral cats that are around us. Max is onto their smell, so now they spend a good portion of their time on the “hunt” to find and bark at them. (Max barks, Dave just sighs). The neighbors in the area feed all the animals and last night, Dave and Max actually spotted a cat, a racoon and a possum all eating from the same food dish at the same time. Weird and a little crazy!

Biloxi and the surrounding areas are known as the “Secret Coast”. We’ve been exploring some of the different towns around us and taking in some of the events. We recently visited the Gulfport Aquarium. It’s not a huge place, although they have the touch pool where you can touch fish and stingrays, an aviary, a three-story aquarium full of different marine life and one sneaky alligator snapping turtle that is scary just to look at.

The gulf coast used to have a hockey team called the SeaWolves and unfortunately, they lost it when the arena was damaged in hurricane Katrina. They tried with a comeback team called the Surge, although, that only lasted two seasons. They are back at it and are trying to fill the arena with 3 games from out of state teams. Dave and I attended one game and had great seats. We got to see a few fights and although it was hard to know who to cheer for, we still had fun. Being from Minnesota, it was like a little taste of “winter” while we are down here. As part of the opening session, we were able to see some new Air Force recruits take their oath to “officially” join and become members of our awesome US military. All in all, it was a great night out.

Dave had his first ever pedicure and is sooooo happy with the results. If you are a man and thought this was just a woman thing, forget that. He had such thick calluses on his feet and they were able to remove almost all of them. We’re scheduled to go together next week for another. Such a nice treat. We’ve found our pet groomer, our hair stylists and the best grocery stores to shop. Dave also has his favorite seafood market and that’s become a weekly stop.
Homer is all decorated up for Christmas and our stockings are hung by the chimney with care. (Actually, the dogs stockings are hung and full of dog toys! Lol). We have our tickets to see the festival of lights in Gulfport and are hoping to have a relatively cool evening before we attend, just so it will feel a little more like what we are used to experiencing. We invested in a propane fire pit and have been enjoying some adult beverages around the “campfire” when we get a chance. All in all, I would say we are pretty happy and content with our Biloxi location and can’t wait to keep finding new things to try. If you get a chance this winter, you know where we’ll be, so come and see us.

See ya on the road,
Dave and Theresa
